Getting Oriented to Girl Scouts

Welcome to the Minneapolis Lakes Service Unit in the Girl Scouts River Valleys Council. Thank you for volunteering to be a Troop Leader!   Here is some information to get you started.

What’s a Council? 

Girl Scouts is a big organization serving over 1.9 million girls.    gsrv-council-map-2015-300x287To make sure that Girl Scouts meets the needs of its girls across the country, Girl Scouts is divided into over 100 regional Councils with paid staff.  The Girl Scouts River Valleys Council serves 32,000 girls in southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

Girl Scouts River Valleys Council has a website with activities, events, training, forms and help applicable to all troops in the River Valleys Council area.  This is where adults and girls join, renew, take required training and find all sorts of helpful information.

What’s a Service Unit?

Each Council is divided into volunteer led Service Units who work to build the girl scout experience in their local area.  Troops are part of a Service Unit based on zip code or school.

The Minneapolis Lakes Service Unit is one of 200 Service Units in the Girl Scouts River Valleys Council.  Minneapolis Lakes SU serves girls in zip codes 55405, 55407, 55408, 55409, 55410, 55413 and 55419 or attending one of these Minneapolis schools:  Annunciation, Armatage Montessori, Barton Open, Burroughs Community, Carondelet Catholic, Emily O. Goodridge-Grey, Jefferson Community, Kenny Community, Kenwood Community, Lake Country, Lake Harriet Lower, Lyndale Community, Pilgrim Lutheran, Risen Christ, Stonebridge Community School and Windom Spanish Duel.
